This is probably getting super boring and repetitive for the poor man woman or child who has to trawl through my tedious daily habits, but hey surprise surprise I used soundcloud for hours yet again. I watched some nice solid YouTube vlogs yet again, and definitely had an increase in Instagram use. Watching people’s live streams is actually really fun I’ve found lately and it seems that insta is a rare magical place where you can have an internet model from the UK answer your question about university and have a rapper from Chicago drinking Hennessy shout out your friend (who just put out an album.. proud of my boy!!) all in one place haha. I also woke up to a notification that a famous rider replied to my comment complimenting his video from South Africa, that sort of thing is always cool 🙂 funny that sometimes I get the urge to communicate with people far fetched and removed from myself more than those I know in real life. Again didn’t use snapchat at all… That effort is going well at least.
I found myself downloading a bunch of apps onto my relatively new phone today Including Tinder, WhatsApp & Twitter, definitely spent the most time on twitter during the day especially after I found a page called “Rate My Doggo” which is just full of pictures of people’s dogs with funny captions and stuff. I naturally spent a lot of time looking at memes on instagram as always and needless to say listening to trap on Soundcloud. Google maps got used a lot more than usual as I went to go see my Nonno in hospital and had no idea how to get there, Google Maps on reflection is extremely useful and extremely annoying to use at the same time as the gyroscope calibration never seems to be right even with a new fully functional phone, you kind of know where you are but not which way you’re pointing. Again used the messenger app mostly to get my social life organised with people however I do spend a lot of time taking with one of my closest friends from primary school, today was no exception.
So the not using snepchet thing is going well. Definitely cut that growing obsession out of my day. However i found myself making an instagram story for the first time force of habbit i guess. Again I spent copious amounts of time on YouTube watching everything from people talking about accidentally tripping on nutmeg to short film rom-coms from bored actors in LA. Soundcloud again being an ever present aspect of my daily life. I don’t know what It is about those leanned out soundcloud guys with weird names and hair but they’re just so charming and addictive to listen to. Again I also used google drive and media factory constantly to check and keep up with the given readings from my subjects.
Over the weekend I was back home in Bendigo with my parents and I found myself using extra services ontop of the established bunch such as ABC iView to watch police dramas with mum and a cartoon site called Kiss Cartoon to watch extensive amounts of “We Bare Bears”. It seemed that my online use really slowed down over these few days while involving the same general apps as I spent a lot more time at the pub with dad for example or watching the F1 race rather than being on my laptop rushing to get work done or watching copious amounts of youtube. I remember in particular showing mum and dad the snapstory from the F1 practice session but apart from that I even used Snapchat less despite my general increased use lately.
So today (being the last 24 hours) I’ve again used Soundcloud the most as well as the messenger app to contact some of my old friends and organised to meet them next week. Snapchat again being an ongoing factor. To be honest I think I’ll delete snapchat for a while because I can feel myself getting sucked into it lately which sucks. I watched youtube for ages last night since I really just find it interesting to see the different types of videos people are putting out. This definitely influenced my dreams as I drempt I was hanging out with Stevie Churchill (a pro BMX rider) at this bike shop and I had a pair of vans which had a small Japanese dog living in them which attracted all these old people to with cameras when he popped his head out. Bit weird but it’s a show of how the media we consume effects us subconsciously I guess.
Over the past week or so I have basically used all of the same apps and online services that I mentioned in my first research post as these uses of social media and browsing habits have become engrained into my every day routine (including media factory and wordpress for readings and other work). Reflecting over the past week I can confidently say that I have used Soundcloud the most out of any other app or site as I have my earbuds in for most of the day it seems. I also used the NAB app a bunch of times to transfer money to top up my miki and such and my snapchat use definitely spiked during the practice day for the Albert Park formula one race as I was constantly updating my story. I feel that I’ve been online a lot less this week except that I found myself emailing my parents a lot more than usual since my grandpa is in hospital at the moment. I guess this is a show of how our online use can differ depending on what is going on in our external lives.
These audio clips are from a project I recently had to do for Media One. Soundcloud is brilliant but it’s slowly being ruined as it gets more and more commercial in my opinion. It used to be a place where you could be free of ads altogether not just if you had a premium subscription.
